About Me

Hi, my name is Brynn Gundermann. This May I will be receiving my B.A. in Communication Studies. Here’s my story:

Back in 2022, my father’s cousin was murdered. A video was posted to an online website showing police fishing his body out of the river – without our family’s permission. Around the same time, the Netflix Series Monster: The Jeffery Dahmer Story was released. At eighteen-years-old, I decided from there to dedicate my communications research towards opening up the conversation surrounding the ethics of true crime media.

My Saddleback Speech & Debate Team & I: My speech ranked first place (gold) in the persuasive speaking category at my first regional competition.

My journey with advocating for ethical true crime media consumption began with a 10 minute speech. Competing with my community college speech and debate team, my work and advoacy became nationally ranked. To read this speech, click here.

My goal with all of my work is to honor those who have lost their lives to violent crime.
